1. Triberg Waterfalls: On the Gutach river in the Black Forest, Triberg's waterfalls tumble in stages down a rocky valley, dropping about 163 metres over a much-photographed staircase of white water. 8.5 km to the next stop
2. German Clock Museum (Deutsches Uhrenmuseum): Furtwangen's Deutsches Uhrenmuseum, home to thousands of timepieces that tell the Black Forest's clock-making story, from lacquered shield clocks to the cuckoo clocks the region made famous. 24 km to the next stop
3. Wutach Gorge: The Wutach Gorge is a wild river gorge and nature reserve in the southeastern Black Forest, with deep rock walls, a famous hiking trail and an exceptional geological cross-section. 14 km to the next stop
4. Titisee: Titisee is a glacial lake in the southern Black Forest, ringed by the resort town of Titisee-Neustadt, with a busy promenade, boat rentals and summer swimming, sailing and windsurfing. 11 km to the next stop

Afternoon

1. Feldberg: The Feldberg is the highest mountain in the Black Forest and Baden-Württemberg, rising to about 1,493 metres, with a glacial tarn, a tower museum and a large non-Alpine ski area. 18 km to the next stop
2. Freiburg Minster (Freiburger Münster): A soaring Gothic cathedral on Freiburg's market square, famous for its openwork stone spire, its medieval bells, and for standing largely intact through the 1944 air raid on the city. 0.1 km to the next stop
3. Freiburg Old Town (Altstadt): Freiburg's medieval old town, where little Bächle water channels run down the lanes, the Martinstor still stands guard, and the Münsterplatz market fills the great cathedral square most mornings.

Day 2

Day 2 covers 6 stops over about 95 km as the crow flies, from Hexenlochmühle to Baden-Baden. ≈ 95 km between stops, straight line

Morning

1. Hexenlochmühle: A much-photographed 19th-century double-wheeled watermill in the wooded Hexenloch gorge near Furtwangen, in the central Black Forest; its wheels still turn above a family-run restaurant and shop. 29 km to the next stop
2. Vogtsbauernhof (Black Forest Open Air Museum): The Black Forest Open Air Museum at Gutach, where original farmhouses were taken down and rebuilt on the grounds to show centuries of rural Black Forest life; open since 1964. 20 km to the next stop
3. Gengenbach: A half-timbered town in the Kinzig valley whose Baroque town hall turns into a giant illuminated Advent calendar each December, one window opening a day until Christmas Eve. 20 km to the next stop

Afternoon

1. Allerheiligen (All Saints' Abbey and Waterfalls): Allerheiligen pairs the romantic ruins of a Premonstratensian abbey with the nearby Allerheiligen Waterfalls, where the Grindenbach drops over seven cascade stages in the Northern Black Forest. 6.8 km to the next stop
2. Mummelsee: The Mummelsee is a small, dark cirque lake on the Schwarzwaldhochstraße in the Northern Black Forest, long wrapped in legends of a water sprite and celebrated in German poetry. 19 km to the next stop
3. Baden-Baden: A spa town on the Black Forest's north-western edge, where Romans took the waters and 19th-century Europe came to gamble, promenade and be seen at the grand Kurhaus.
