About Gröna Lund

Sweden's oldest amusement park by widely reported reckoning, a tightly packed 1883 fairground on Djurgarden with seven roller coasters and a startling history as a concert stage.

Grona Lund is an amusement park on Djurgarden, founded on 3 August 1883 by the German entrepreneur Jacob Schultheis, who set up carousels and other amusements on the site. Wikipedia describes it as the first and oldest amusement park in Sweden. The park covers about 3.8 hectares and is unusually compact, because its central city location limits any expansion. It has more than thirty attractions, including seven roller coasters, among them Insane, Twister and Monster.

Grona Lund is also a summer concert venue, and performers over the years have included Jimi Hendrix in 1967, ABBA in 1973 and Bob Marley in 1980. The Jetline coaster operated from 1988 until it was removed after a fatal accident in 2023. The park drew about 1,676,000 visitors in 2019 and has been owned by Parks and Resorts Scandinavia AB since 2006. It operates seasonally, roughly from late April to September.

Did you know? Founded in 1883 by German entrepreneur Jacob Schultheis, Grona Lund is described by Wikipedia as Sweden's first and oldest amusement park, though it packs everything into just 3.8 hectares.
