About ABBA The Museum
An unapologetically interactive shrine to the Swedish pop group ABBA, where you can record a song, share a stage with digital avatars and eye a phone only the band can call.
ABBA The Museum is an interactive museum about the Swedish pop group ABBA, on Djurgarden in Stockholm. It opened on 7 May 2013 and shares its building with the Swedish Music Hall of Fame and the Pop House Hotel. The plans were launched on 28 November 2006 by Ewa Wigenheim-Westman and Ulf Westman. Exhibits include a recreation of Polar Studios, where ABBA recorded much of their music, alongside original stage costumes, gold records and memorabilia from the band's career.
Interactive stations let visitors sing and perform the group's songs and appear on stage as a fifth member beside digital avatars of the band. One display, Benny's Piano, is a self-playing piano digitally linked to Benny Andersson's own piano at home, so it plays when he does. A red telephone can only be called by the four members of ABBA, whose number only they know. The audio-guided tour was written by Catherine Johnson, who also wrote the Mamma Mia! musical.
Did you know? A self-playing piano in the museum, Benny's Piano, is digitally linked to Benny Andersson's piano at home, so it plays in real time whenever he sits down to play.
