The Cases de l'Onyar are the houses whose facades line the Onyar river through the old town, the classic postcard image of Girona. Built mostly in the 19th century on the line of the old city wall, many hang out over the water on galleries. They were not always colourful: their river facades were painted in a palette of nearly thirty colours, an idea conceived by local artists at the end of the Franco years and carried out in 1982.
Reflected in the still water, with the cathedral and the bell tower of Sant Feliu rising behind, they make Girona's most photographed view, best seen from the river bridges. Among them stands the white Casa Masó, the only one open to visitors.
