Rynek Underground (Podziemia Rynku) is a modern museum set beneath the Main Market Square, a branch of the Museum of Kraków that opened on 24 September 2010. Its route runs roughly four metres below the present square, threading through genuine medieval market levels, streets, foundations and cellars uncovered where they were found. The site came to light during archaeological excavations under the square, generally dated to about 2005-2010, with the main dig phase often cited as 2005-2007.
The permanent exhibition is multimedia and immersive, using holograms, touchscreens, projections and reconstructions to bring medieval trade and daily life to the surface. Its finds include remains linked to the medieval marketplace and earlier structures beneath the Cloth Hall, trade goods, coins, and traces of early settlement and burials. The exhibition covers a large area beneath the square, commonly cited at around 4,000 square metres, though the exact figure varies. Entry is by timed ticket with limited capacity, from an entrance on the north side of the square near the Cloth Hall.
