About Maritiman
A floating ship museum on the river, said to be the world's largest, where you can clamber through a Cold War destroyer and submarine and a fleet of tugs, fireboats and old working vessels.
Maritiman is a floating maritime museum moored on the Göta älv in the city centre, a fleet of historic ships linked by gangways that is often called the world's largest floating ship museum. It grew from a 1980s effort to save historic vessels after the collapse of Gothenburg's shipbuilding industry.
Its stars are two Cold War warships: the destroyer Småland, one of the largest preserved warships in Scandinavia, built in Gothenburg and launched in 1952, and the submarine Nordkaparen, whose cramped interior tells the story of Sweden's secret underwater patrols. Around them lie tugs, a fireboat, a monitor and other working ships. The museum is seasonal.
