About Gothenburg Museum of Art

A great yellow-brick museum at the head of Götaplatsen, holding Sweden's finest collection of Nordic art in the Fürstenberg Gallery, alongside works by Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso and Munch.

The Gothenburg Museum of Art, the Konstmuseum, closes the top of Götaplatsen in a monumental arc of yellow brick, built for the 1923 jubilee and opened to the public in 1925. Its collection of around seventy thousand works is among the largest in Sweden.

Its glory is the Fürstenberg Gallery, Sweden's finest collection of late-19th-century Nordic art, with works by Zorn, Carl Larsson, Bruno Liljefors, Krøyer and Munch, including Richard Bergh's luminous 'Nordic Summer Evening'. The museum also holds a late Rembrandt and works by Rubens, Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso. It is due to close around 2028 for a major rebuild.
