About Liseberg
One of Scandinavia's best-loved amusement parks, opened in 1923, with the wooden coaster Balder, the launch coaster Helix and a towering drop ride, plus a famous Christmas market of thousands of lights.
Liseberg opened in 1923 as the amusement park of the Gothenburg Jubilee Exhibition, celebrating the city's 300th anniversary. Meant to be temporary, it was such a hit that it stayed, and it is now one of the most visited amusement parks in Scandinavia, owned by the city. Its name comes from an 18th-century estate called Lisas berg, 'Lisa's mountain'.
The park is known for its roller coasters, among them the acclaimed wooden coaster Balder and the launch coaster Helix, along with a dizzying drop tower and a tall Ferris wheel, all set among gardens and the park's pink-and-green colours. It runs in seasons, and its winter Christmas market, with thousands of trees and millions of lights, is one of the largest in Sweden.
