About Seidel Photo Studio Museum (Museum Fotoatelier Seidel)
A photographer's home and glass-roofed studio, preserved intact with its darkroom, cameras and an archive of some 140,000 glass negatives.
The Museum Fotoatelier Seidel preserves the 1905 house, studio and darkroom of the Krumlov photographers Josef Seidel (1859-1935) and his son František (1908-1997), opened to the public on 6 June 2008. Josef had run a photographic business in the town since 1888, and the studio operated until it was nationalised in 1949; its surviving archive holds roughly 140,000 mostly glass-plate negatives documenting Český Krumlov and the Šumava, or Bohemian Forest, region. Original cameras, equipment and the family's belongings remain in place, making it one of the most complete turn-of-the-century ateliers of its kind in the area.
