About Little Venice (Klein-Venedig)
Little Venice in Bamberg, a row of old fishermen's houses on the bank of the river Regnitz, with small gardens and wooden balconies right above the water, in the island town.
The houses, many with origins in the seventeenth century and later changes, belonged to the fishermen and boatmen of the town. Their long wooden balconies gave space to dry nets. The name Little Venice was already used in tourist advertising in the 1920s, and the row is part of the World Heritage site.
The houses are private, but the riverside views are free at all times. The best views are from the Untere Brücke and the opposite bank, or from a river boat in season.
Did you know? The long wooden balconies of Little Venice in Bamberg gave the fishermen space to hang their nets to dry, because the houses had tiny gardens or none.
