About Bunk'Art 2

A secret Interior Ministry bunker of the 1980s in central Tirana, now a museum of the police and the Sigurimi secret police, telling the story of persecution, prisons and labour camps under communism.

Bunk'Art 2 is a bunker built between 1981 and 1986 beside the former Ministry of Internal Affairs, just off Skanderbeg Square, to protect the ministry in case of chemical or nuclear attack. Visitors enter through a concrete dome shaped like a pillbox bunker, lined inside with portraits. It opened as a museum in 2016.

Its 24 rooms tell the history of the Albanian police from 1912 to 1991, and above all of the Sigurimi, the communist secret police: interrogation rooms, a prison cell, the minister's suite, and testimonies of political prisoners and labour camps. Its subject is painful; some images are disturbing.
