About Palacio de Mondragón
Ronda's finest old palace, with Moorish roots and beautiful Mudéjar courtyards of tile and horseshoe arches, where the Catholic Monarchs once lodged. It now holds the town museum and a garden with mountain views.
The Palacio de Mondragón, in the heart of La Ciudad, is the grandest of Ronda's old palaces. Begun in the 14th century from Moorish houses, it was the residence of the town's Nasrid governor, and after the conquest of 1485 the Catholic Monarchs lodged here. It takes its name from a later owner, Captain Melchor de Mondragón.
Behind its stone and brick facade lie three patios, the loveliest a 16th-century Mudéjar courtyard of horseshoe arches, glazed azulejo tiles and slender columns, and rooms with fine coffered Mudéjar ceilings. The palace now houses the Museo de Ronda, with archaeology from the region's ancient sites, and a terraced garden looking out to the sierra.
