About Alameda del Tajo

Ronda's leafy clifftop promenade park, laid out in the early 19th century, where shaded avenues of old trees lead to balcony viewpoints poised dramatically over the cliff edge and the Serranía beyond.

The Alameda del Tajo is Ronda's great promenade park, a shady botanical garden laid out in the early 19th century beside the bullring on the very edge of the Tajo escarpment. Five tree-lined avenues, some of their specimens more than two centuries old, lead to a line of balconies hung out over the cliff, with sweeping views across the Ronda plain, La Hoya, to the Serranía de Ronda.

Among its trees stand monuments including a statue of the bullfighter Pedro Romero. From its western side the Paseo de los Ingleses runs along the cliff toward the gardens of the old Reina Victoria hotel. The park is free and open, and its balcony viewpoints are magical in the golden light of early morning and evening.
