About Shadërvan Square
Shadërvan, the cobbled heart of old Prizren around its drinking fountain, lined with cafés and shops, where mosques and churches stand a few steps apart and the town meets.
The square is named after its fountain: şadırvan is a Turkish word of Persian origin for an ornamental fountain. It was the centre of the old market district, with streets of shops branching off it.
Around it stand the Sinan Pasha Mosque, an Orthodox church and, a little further, the Catholic cathedral. Café terraces fill the square, especially in summer and during the Dokufest film festival in August. The square is free and open at all times.
