About Allmendhubel

Mürren's nearest hill, reached since 1912 by a short funicular that climbs to 1,907 metres, with a panorama restaurant, a flower trail and a playground facing the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

The Allmendhubel funicular has climbed from Mürren since 1912, when it ran only in winter. The metre-gauge line is 551 metres long, rises to 1,907 metres at gradients of up to 61 percent, and takes about four minutes. Panorama cars replaced the old red cars in 1999. The Schilthornbahn company took the line over after 1996, when the Jungfrau Railways planned to replace it with a chairlift, and renewed the track, the cars and the restaurant by 2000.

At the top stand the Panorama Restaurant, the Flower Park playground and the start of the Flower Trail, a short path where the regional tourism office counts more than 150 kinds of alpine flowers, among them edelweiss, gentians and alpine roses. Many walks begin here, including a route of about two hours down to Gimmelwald past the Sprutz waterfall. The funicular stops for maintenance for several weeks in spring and late autumn.

Did you know? The Allmendhubel funicular is only 551 metres long, yet it climbs from about 1,650 metres to 1,907 metres at gradients of up to 61 percent, in a ride of about four minutes.
