About Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně
Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně, the two other towns of the West Bohemian Spa Triangle, with a cast-iron colonnade, a Singing Fountain and spa parks, part of the Great Spa Towns of Europe.
Mariánské Lázně, about 55 kilometres south-west of Karlovy Vary, grew around its cold mineral springs in the nineteenth century; its Main Colonnade of 1888 and 1889 faces the Singing Fountain of the 1980s. Františkovy Lázně, founded in 1793 near Cheb, is a small spa town laid out on a regular plan around its springs.
The two towns lie about thirty kilometres apart, and each deserves a few hours. The Singing Fountain plays from spring until about the end of October. The spa houses are working clinics, not museums.
