About Jan Becher Museum (Becherovka)
The Jan Becher Museum in Karlovy Vary, in the old Becher distillery, tells the story of Becherovka, the herbal bitters made in the town since 1807 to a secret recipe.
Josef Vitus Becher, a trader in spices, began to sell his English Bitter in 1807, and his son Jan Becher built the distillery where the museum now stands. Tours show the old cellars with their oak barrels, the history of the firm and its bottles, and end with a tasting.
The museum is closed on Mondays, and tours are best booked ahead. The modern factory is elsewhere in the town, and factory tours run only on set weekdays with early booking. The tasting is for adults only.
