About Grandhotel Pupp
The Grandhotel Pupp in Karlovy Vary, a grand neo-Baroque hotel on the river Teplá, linked with the Pupp family since the eighteenth century and the traditional hotel of the film festival.
The confectioner Johann Georg Pupp bought the old Bohemian Hall here in the 1770s. The present hotel was built in the 1890s and given its neo-Baroque face by the Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer in the early 1900s. Under communism it was called the Grandhotel Moskva; the name Pupp returned in 1989.
It is a working hotel, so non-guests can usually see only the café, the restaurants and the public areas. The film festival takes place in July, with its main centre at the Hotel Thermal.
Did you know? The confectioner Johann Georg Pupp, who married into a local family in 1775, owned the whole Bohemian Hall on this site by 1778, the start of the Grandhotel Pupp.
