The 5fingers is a hand-shaped steel viewing platform on the Krippenstein, part of the Dachstein massif above Obertraun, at around 2,108 metres above sea level. Five parallel “fingers”, each about four metres long, cantilever out over a sheer cliff that drops roughly four hundred metres, facing the Hallstatt World Heritage landscape and the Hallstätter See far below. Each finger is designed differently: one has a glass floor, one is an open springboard with no rail at its tip, and one frames Hallstatt through a large Baroque-style picture frame.
Opened in 2006 and free to visit, the platform is reached by the Dachstein Krippenstein cable car from Obertraun, followed by a walk of roughly twenty to forty minutes, and operates in the summer season. It should not be confused with the Hallstatt Skywalk by the Rudolfsturm or the Dachstein Skywalk at the Hunerkogel; the same cable car also serves the Dachstein ice caves.
