Its global fame inspired a full-size replica of the village core, built by a Chinese developer in Guangdong province. Initially planned with some discretion, the project ended amicably: Hallstatt's mayor was invited to the opening, and the two places went on to enjoy a friendly cultural exchange rather than a copyright quarrel.
