About Jewish Museum Frankfurt
The Jewish Museum of Frankfurt, in the Rothschild Palais by the river Main and in the Museum Judengasse, tells more than eight hundred years of history of one of the great Jewish communities of Germany.
The main museum, in two palaces of the early nineteenth century with a new extension, shows Jewish life in Frankfurt from about 1800 to today, through families such as the Rothschilds and the Franks. The Museum Judengasse, about 1.5 kilometres away, shows the remains of houses of the old Jewish lane, next to the Börneplatz Memorial and the Old Jewish Cemetery.
The museum is closed on Mondays and needs a ticket, which covers both sites; entry is free for under-18s and on the last Saturday of the month. Some parts of the Museum Judengasse are reached only by stairs.
Did you know? The Jewish Museum of Frankfurt opened in the Rothschild Palais by the river Main on 9 November 1988, fifty years after the November pogrom of 1938.
