About Stephen the Great Park

Stephen the Great Park, the city's oldest public park, laid out from about 1818, with the statue of the medieval prince, a bust of Pushkin and the Alley of Classics.

The park was laid out from about 1818 and has about 50 kinds of trees, some mulberries and acacias well over a century old. Its cast-iron fence was made in Odesa. At the corner stands the bronze statue of Stephen the Great, ruler of Moldavia from 1457 to 1504, unveiled in 1928.

Inside are a bust of Pushkin from 1885 and the Alley of Classics, opened in 1958 with busts of Romanian and Moldovan writers. The park is free and always open; a large renovation is planned, so parts may be fenced off.
