About Central Market

Piața Centrală, Chișinău's huge and busy Central Market beside the bus station, a maze of stalls selling fruit, vegetables, cheese, honey and almost everything else.

The market fills a whole block between Armenească, Mitropolit Varlaam and Tighina streets, and its history goes back to a New Market of the 1820s. City figures speak of thousands of trading places and tens of thousands of visitors a day.

Come in the morning for fresh produce, brynza cheese, honey and pickles. Most trade is in cash, in lei. It is crowded, so watch your bag; parts may be under renovation.

Did you know? The city's tourism office calls the New Market of 1825 the great-grandmother of today's Central Market, which fills a whole city block in Chișinău.
