The museum grew from an agricultural exhibition of 1889 and calls itself the oldest public museum in Moldova. Its building, designed by Vladimir Țiganco, has horseshoe arches and battlements in a Moorish revival style.
Its star is the skeleton of Deinotherium giganteum, an extinct relative of the elephant from millions of years ago, found in the Rezina area. The museum is closed on Mondays and on the last Wednesday of each month.
