About Pushkin House Museum

The Pushkin House Museum, a small reconstructed inn where the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin lived for his first weeks in Chișinău in 1820, with rooms and exhibits on his years in Bessarabia.

Pushkin was sent south from St Petersburg in 1820, after his verse angered the authorities, and arrived in Chișinău on 21 September. He lived in this house, then a merchant's inn, for about two months, and stayed in Bessarabia until 1823.

The museum opened in 1948, and the house was reconstructed in 1987 to its presumed appearance. It shows period rooms, engravings and first editions. Opening hours are not widely published, so call ahead.
