About Cricova Winery
Cricova, the underground wine city north of Chișinău, where about 120 km of old limestone mine galleries hold sparkling wine cellars and a national collection of more than a million bottles.
Stone quarried here built much of Chișinău, and from 1952 part of the old mine galleries became a sparkling wine factory. The tunnels form a network of streets, kept at a cool, steady temperature all year.
Visits are by booked guided tour only, usually by small electric train through the galleries, to the cellars and the National Collection, which holds bottles from 1902. Bring a jacket; tastings are for adults only.
