About Butrint Lion Gate, Walls and Museum
The ancient walls and the Lion Gate of Butrint, and the hilltop acropolis with its castle and archaeological museum, looking over the Vivari Channel, the lagoon and the island of Corfu.
The walls of Butrint date from the fifth to the third century BC, with later Roman and Byzantine repairs. The Lion Gate has a relief of a lion attacking a bull. A castle on the summit, restored in the 1930s, holds the museum.
The museum is included in the park ticket but may close earlier than the park, so visit it first. The steps to the summit are steep. A cable ferry crosses the Vivari Channel near the entrance.
