About Rotes Haus

The Rotes Haus, the Red House of Vaduz, a dark red house with stepped gables and a tower above its vineyard, an old wine estate shaped in its present form around 1900.

Large parts of the house probably date from the 16th century, and in 1525 it was sold to a monastery. The Rheinberger family bought it in 1807, and around 1902-1905 the architect Egon Rheinberger joined the old house and wine press with a new tower.

The house is still a private home of the Rheinberger family and cannot be visited inside. It is best seen from the lane and the edge of its vineyard in the old village centre.

Did you know? In 1525 Josef Litscher sold the Rotes Haus to the monastery of St Johann; a legend says he had killed his brother, but only the sale is documented.
