About The Rhine and the Old Rhine Bridge

The Rhine at Vaduz, the river that forms Liechtenstein's border with Switzerland, crossed by the Old Rhine Bridge, a covered wooden bridge of 1901 for walkers and cyclists.

The Alpine Rhine forms the whole western border of Liechtenstein, about 27 km long, and has been tamed by high dikes after centuries of floods. The covered wooden bridge between Vaduz and Sevelen was rebuilt in 1900-1901 on the piers of the first bridge of 1871.

It is the last wooden bridge across the Alpine Rhine and has been closed to cars since a new bridge opened in the 1970s. The bridge and the dike paths are free and open at all times; the river is fast and cold, so stay out of the water.
