About Museo di Stato (State Museum)
San Marino's State Museum in the Palazzo Pergami Belluzzi, with archaeology from the republic's territory, art linked to its saints and institutions, donated treasures and the coins of San Marino.
The State Museum began in the 19th century from gifts sent from around the world, opened in 1899 and has been in the Palazzo Pergami Belluzzi since 2001. Four levels show the archaeology of San Marino, art of the republic, donated art and ancient objects, from Egyptian figurines to Roman glass.
Highlights include a Gothic brooch from the Domagnano Treasure, a painting by Guercino and Pompeo Batoni's San Marino raising up his Republic, and a room of the republic's coins. The separate Museum of Stamps and Coins is nearby on Piazza Garibaldi. A combined pass covers the state museums.
Did you know? The State Museum keeps a Gothic gold brooch that is the only piece of the sixth-century Domagnano Treasure still in San Marino.
