About Ekebergparken

A wooded hillside above the fjord scattered with sculptures by Dalí, Rodin and Abramović, and famous as the ridge where Munch is said to have felt 'The Scream'.

Ekebergparken is a sculpture and heritage park on the wooded Ekeberg hill in south-east Oslo, overlooking the city and the fjord. It was inaugurated on 26 September 2013, initiated and financed by the property investor and art collector Christian Ringnes. The park is owned by the City of Oslo, while the sculptures belong to the C. Ludens Ringnes Foundation. It covers about 25 acres of woodland and is free and open to the public.

Thirty-one sculptures were in place when the park opened, with a plan to build toward around eighty works, many of which take women as their subject. Artists represented include Salvador Dalí, Auguste Rodin, Marina Abramović, James Turrell and Tony Cragg, and a small museum occupies Lunds Hus, a white villa from 1891. The hill is traditionally linked to Edvard Munch's 'The Scream', and in 2013 Abramović staged a site-specific performance of that name here. The site also offers a panoramic viewpoint over central Oslo and the Oslofjord.
