About Holmenkollen Ski Jump
Oslo's landmark ski jump, rebuilt entirely in steel for 2010, with an observation-deck view over city and fjord and a ski museum claiming to be the world's oldest.
Holmenkollbakken is Oslo's landmark ski jump, set in the forested hills above the city, where the first competition was held on 30 January 1892. The hill has been rebuilt roughly nineteen times. The current jump is an entirely new steel structure, demolished and rebuilt between 2008 and 2010 and described as the only steel ski jump of its kind with permanent wind screening. It has a hill size of 134 metres and a K-point of 120 metres.
The venue hosted the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1930, 1966, 1982 and 2011, and ski events of the 1952 Winter Olympics, and it stages the annual Holmenkollen Ski Festival, a fixture since the 1890s and part of the World Cup since 1980. At its base, the Ski Museum, which the institution describes as the world's oldest ski museum, was founded in 1923 and has stood here since 1951. It traces roughly 4,000 years of skiing and offers a tower observation deck over Oslo.
Did you know? The ski jump visitors see today is completely new: between 2008 and 2010 the old hill was demolished and replaced with a single steel structure, described as the only one of its kind with permanent wind screening.
