A small Byzantine church of brick and stone, probably of the 13th century, perched on a cliff above Lake Ohrid at the old fishing quarter of Kaneo, with frescoes and a famous view.
The Church of St John the Theologian stands on a rocky headland above the old fishing quarter of Kaneo, west of Ohrid's centre. Its building date is unknown: a plaster inscription of 1447 in another Ohrid church already lists a field owned by this church, and scholars date it by its style to the 13th century.
Restoration work in 1964 revealed frescoes in the dome, including Christ Pantocrator, and much of the original painting survives, with saints and the Virgin in the apse and St Clement of Ohrid beside St Erasmus. A stone path along the cliff links the church with Plaošnik and the old town.
