About Sant Jeroni (the Summit)
The highest peak of Montserrat, about 1,236 metres, reached by a fine mountain walk among the rock pinnacles. From its platform the view sweeps over Catalonia, reportedly to the Pyrenees and even the sea.
Sant Jeroni is the highest peak of Montserrat, standing about 1,236 metres above the sea. It is reached on foot, most easily by taking the Sant Joan funicular and then following a fine mountain path, a circular walk of roughly seven kilometres, that threads among the mountain's famous rock pinnacles.
A final flight of steps with a railing climbs to the summit platform, where an orientation table names the landscape. The view sweeps across Catalonia: reportedly as far as the Pyrenees to the north and the sea to the south, and, on the rarest and clearest of days, even the island of Mallorca. A small 19th-century chapel stands below the peak.
