About Anfield

Home of Liverpool FC since 1892 and famous for the Kop and 'You'll Never Walk Alone', this all-seater stadium holds around 61,000 and offers tours and a club museum.

Anfield is a football stadium in the Anfield district of Liverpool and the home ground of Liverpool FC. It opened in 1884 as the home of Everton FC; after a dispute Everton left in 1892, Liverpool FC was founded, and the club has played there ever since. It is now an all-seater stadium holding about 61,000, after the Main Stand redevelopment of 2016 and the enlarged Anfield Road End of 2024. The Kop was rebuilt as an all-seater single-tier stand in 1994.

The club anthem, 'You'll Never Walk Alone', is inscribed on the Shankly Gates, unveiled in 1982 for the manager Bill Shankly, whose statue followed in 1997. A memorial with an eternal flame commemorates those who died in the Hillsborough disaster of 15 April 1989; the memorial was moved to a new location at the ground in 2016. The record of those lost was revised from 96 to 97 in 2021.
