About The Old Port

The small working fishing harbour beside the castle, the city's main port until the 1970s, where fishing boats still land their catch each morning beside the restored seafront and the marina.

The Old Port, tucked beside the castle at the foot of the old town, was for generations the main harbour of Limassol, until the larger New Port to the west took over the city's cargo and cruise traffic in the early 1970s. Its foundations go back to British times, and its present form dates from 1956.

Today the Old Port is a small, friendly fishing harbour and coast-guard shelter behind a breakwater, part of the restored seafront beside the Molos and the gleaming marina. Fishing boats still head out in the evening and return at dawn, and their catch is sold on to the shops and fish tavernas of the city, keeping an old working rhythm alive at the edge of the modern riviera.
