About Çamlıca Hill (Büyük Çamlıca)

One of the highest hills on Istanbul's Asian side, and its classic panorama over the Bosphorus. A landscaped park with tea terraces, crowned by Turkey's largest mosque.

Büyük Çamlıca (Big Çamlıca Hill), rising to about 288 metres on the Asian side of Istanbul, is one of the highest hills overlooking the central Bosphorus and a classic panorama point over the strait and the mouth of the Golden Horn. It was a favoured excursion, promenade and tea-garden spot in Ottoman times, and its summit is now a landscaped public park with terraced cafés.

The hill is crowned by the Büyük Çamlıca Mosque, opened in 2019 and the largest mosque in Turkey, able to hold around 63,000 worshippers and housing a museum, art gallery, library and conference hall. Its four main minarets stand 107.1 metres high, marking the year 1071 of the Seljuk victory at Manzikert. On the neighbouring Küçük Çamlıca hill, the Çamlıca Tower, a broadcast tower of about 369 metres inaugurated in 2021, is the tallest structure in Istanbul.

Did you know? The Büyük Çamlıca Mosque, opened in 2019, is the largest in Turkey. Its four main minarets rise to exactly 107.1 metres, a coded reference to 1071, the year of the Seljuk victory at Manzikert.
