About Kassiopi
Kassiopi on the north-east coast of Corfu, once a Roman town and now a harbour village of colourful houses, below the ruined walls of a Byzantine castle facing the coast of the mainland.
In Roman times Kassiopi was the second town of Corfu, and the emperor Nero is said to have sung at its temple of Zeus. The Byzantine castle guarded the narrow strait; the Venetians had it dismantled after 1386.
The castle is an open ruin, with no staff or published hours, and uneven, overgrown ground. A narrow path leads up from the village. Boats can be hired at the harbour.
