About Nikola Tesla Museum
The museum of the visionary inventor Nikola Tesla, holding his personal archive and his ashes in a golden sphere, where guides bring his electrical inventions crackling back to life.
The Nikola Tesla Museum, in a handsome villa in the Vračar district, is dedicated to the Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla, the pioneer of alternating current and wireless technology, born to a Serb family in the Austrian Empire in 1856. Founded in 1952, it holds his entire personal archive, brought from New York after his death, listed on UNESCO's Memory of the World register.
Tesla's ashes rest here in a gold-plated sphere, said to have been his favourite shape. The museum is visited by guided tour: after a short film, a guide fires up working replicas of his inventions, a crackling Tesla coil and lamps that light up wirelessly in visitors' hands. Among the exhibits are models of his induction motor and his pioneering remote-controlled boat.
