About House of Flowers

The marble tomb of Josip Broz Tito, the leader of socialist Yugoslavia, in a garden pavilion at the Museum of Yugoslavia, a place of memory for a country that no longer exists.

The House of Flowers (Kuća cveća) is the mausoleum of Josip Broz Tito, the long-time leader of socialist Yugoslavia, who died in 1980; his wife Jovanka is buried beside him. It stands in the grounds of the Museum of Yugoslavia, in the leafy Dedinje district, and was built in 1975 as a garden pavilion near Tito's residence, taking its name from the flowers that surrounded it.

Tito was buried here under a plain white marble slab after a state funeral that drew delegations from well over a hundred countries. Alongside the tomb, the museum displays relics of the Yugoslav era, among them the decorated batons of the Relay of Youth, carried each year to the leader. The wider Museum of Yugoslavia is today the most visited museum in Serbia.
