About Museum of Broken Relationships
An original, award-winning museum in the Upper Town where the objects left behind by ended love affairs, each with an anonymous story, are displayed with surprising tenderness, humour and heartbreak.
The Museum of Broken Relationships is one of Zagreb's most original attractions: a museum made entirely of objects that people have donated after a relationship ended, each shown with a short, anonymous story. It was founded by two Zagreb artists, Olinka Vištica and Dražen Grubišić, after their own relationship ended in 2003, and began as a travelling exhibition that toured dozens of cities around the world.
In 2010 it found a permanent home in a baroque palace in the Upper Town, becoming the city's first privately owned museum, and in 2011 it won the Kenneth Hudson Award at the European Museum of the Year Awards. Its thousands of objects, from love letters to a now-famous axe, are by turns funny, moving and devastating, and it is open every day of the week.
