About Sanctuary of Isis at Dion

The Sanctuary of Isis at Dion, a Roman-era shrine of the Egyptian goddess among springs and reeds, with temples, a channel that recalls the Nile and copies of statues standing in the water.

The cult of Isis came to Dion in the second century BC, and the temples seen today date mostly from the Roman period. The complex has a central temple of Isis Lochia, the protector of childbirth, smaller temples of Aphrodite Hypolympidia and Isis Tyche, and a channel thought to recall the Nile.

The sanctuary is part of the Archaeological Park of Dion and keeps its hours. The ground is low and fed by springs, so expect water and mud after rain. The original statues are in the Dion museum.
