About Kohtuotsa Viewing Platform
The northern edge of Toompea offers Tallinn's classic postcard view: a sea of red medieval rooftops, church spires, the harbour and the Gulf of Finland beyond.
Kohtuotsa is a viewing platform on the northern edge of Toompea hill and one of the best-known viewpoints in Tallinn's Old Town. From it the red rooftops of the Lower Town spread out below, punctuated by church spires such as St Olaf's, with the medieval towers and walls, the harbour and the Gulf of Finland beyond. On a clear day the view reaches past the port to the Pirita district. The Old Town seen from here is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The platform stands at Kohtu street 12 and is free to enter, open around the clock and popular for photography in every season. A wall nearby often carries the changing graffiti phrase 'The Times We Had', a recognisable photo backdrop, though it is informal and periodically repainted. Toompea's second main viewpoint, Patkuli, is reached by a long stairway and looks out toward the town-wall towers, St Olaf's Church and the passenger port.
Did you know? Kohtuotsa frames Tallinn's most photographed panorama: the red-roofed medieval Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, spread below with St Olaf's spire, the town walls, the harbour and the Gulf of Finland beyond.
