About Sahat Tepe and the Clock Tower
Sahat Tepe, the clock hill in the centre of Plovdiv, a rocky park crowned by an Ottoman clock tower of 1812, with views over the Old Town to the other hills of the city.
The hill, officially Danov Hill, is one of six surviving city hills; traditionally there were seven. Its stone clock tower, about 17.5 metres high, was finished in 1812 and has no clock face: the hours are marked by a bell. A wooden tower stood here from the late sixteenth century.
The hill is an open park with no ticket, and the tower is seen from outside. The paths and steps are steep and rough and slippery after rain. The tower is floodlit at night.
