About New Old Town (Dom-Römer Quarter)
The New Old Town of Frankfurt, the Dom-Römer quarter between the Römerberg and the cathedral, built from 2012 to 2018 with 35 houses, 15 of them reconstructions of houses lost in 1944.
A concrete office block of the 1970s, the Technical Town Hall, once stood on this site. After it was pulled down, the city brought back the old street plan, with steep roofs and local stone and slate. Fifteen houses copy lost buildings, such as the Golden Scales of about 1619, and twenty are new designs in the spirit of the old town.
The lanes are open at all times and are busiest at weekends. The Golden Scales house has a café and rooms of the Historical Museum, which is closed on Mondays.
Did you know? The New Old Town of Frankfurt has thirty-five buildings: fifteen reconstructions of houses lost in 1944 and twenty new designs in the historic style.
