About Cortina d'Ampezzo

Cortina d'Ampezzo, the mountain town of the Veneto in a wide valley ringed by the Tofane, Cristallo and Sorapis, a Ladin community and host of the Winter Olympics of 1956 and 2026.

Cortina was Venetian from 1420 and Austrian from 1508 until it passed to Italy after the First World War. It hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956 and, with Milan, in 2026. Its people speak Italian and Ampezzano, a form of Ladin.

The car-free centre is open all year. Museums and shops have shorter hours outside the main seasons. There is no railway; buses run from Calalzo and from Venice.

Did you know? Cortina d'Ampezzo hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 1956 and, together with the city of Milan, hosted them again seventy years later, in 2026.
