About Alpe di Siusi
The Alpe di Siusi, in German the Seiser Alm, a vast high plateau of meadows in South Tyrol, often called the largest alpine meadow in Europe, below the Sciliar and the Sassolungo.
The plateau lies between about 1,700 and 2,350 metres and covers more than 50 square kilometres. The Sciliar rises on one side and the Sassolungo group on the other. It has been grazed since the Bronze Age.
In summer, private cars may not drive up during the day; the gondola from Siusi or Ortisei is the usual way. Parking at Compatsch may need a booking. There is little shelter on the open plateau.
