About Diolkos
The Diolkos, a paved trackway of about 600 BC near the west end of the Corinth Canal, on which boats and cargo were hauled overland across the Isthmus for more than six centuries.
It was built at the end of the seventh or start of the sixth century BC and used until the first century AD. The paving of hard limestone has parallel grooves about 1.6 metres apart. Only about 1.1 km has been traced; the canal and erosion destroyed other parts.
The remains lie by the Poseidonia bridge at the west end of the canal, with no ticket office. Parts may be fenced, so keep to the path and do not walk on the paving. There are no facilities.
