About Sanctuary of Poseidon at Isthmia
The sanctuary of Poseidon at Isthmia near the east end of the Corinth Canal, home of the Isthmian Games, with the foundations of the temple, the starting line of an early stadium and Roman baths.
The Isthmian Games, one of the four great Panhellenic festivals, were held here every two years from about 580 BC. The temple of Poseidon was built in the seventh century BC and rebuilt after fires; its stones were later reused in a wall. The museum shows rare Roman glass panels from Kenchreai.
One ticket covers the site and the museum. From November hours are shorter and the site is closed on Tuesdays. Little stands above ground, so the museum helps.
