About Ancient Stadium of Nemea

The ancient stadium of Nemea, of the late fourth century BC, with its stone starting line, its water channel and a vaulted tunnel for the athletes, among the oldest surviving vaults in Greece.

The stadium was built in a natural hollow about 500 m from the temple, and most spectators sat on earth banks. The track keeps its stone starting blocks and a water channel. A tunnel about 36 metres long led from the changing room to the track, with graffiti left by athletes.

It is on the same ticket as the temple and the museum, with its own entrance. From November hours are shorter and the site is closed on Tuesdays. The ground is uneven, and the tunnel is low and may be damp.
